From the late 1940s through the mid 1990s, Ben Swiezynski and his Graflex camera were a familiar presence around Exeter, as Ben captured on film many facets of town life and the people of that period. This exhibit, curated by his son Jim, will show a selection of pictures from Ben's 50-plus years of professional photography.
Related to the exhibit is Jim Swiezynski’s presentation about his father and his years of Exeter photography. If you missed the program, you can watch it here.
This exhibit was on display June - August 2024.
Exeter Brass Band Exhibit
The Exeter Brass Band plays at the Swasey Pavilion (better known as the Bandstand) on Monday evenings in July.
We have created two Exeter History Minutes in which we talk about the Exeter Brass Band. The first is about the Swasey Pavilion (and includes music performed by the band at the end, as well as a slideshow), and the second is about long-time band member Edward Tilton.
Exeter TV created a documentary about the band for its 175th anniversary, which can be viewed here.
We thank the Inn by the Bandstand for sponsoring this exhibit.
The exhibit was on display March - May 2024.

A Stitch in Time: Quilts from the Collection of the Exeter Historical Society & the Seabreeze Quilt Guild
sponsored by Pintuck and Purl
The exhibit featured quilts from our collection along with quilts made by local guild members including Kerin Ferrin, Janet-Lee Santeusanio, and Susan Webster. The exhibit also featured a tribute to Dot Bloom, a local quilter who passed away in 2018 at the age of 99.
Thanks to Exeter Historical Society trustee Beth Diamond for organizing and curating this exhibit, and for taking the photos.
