The mission of the Exeter Historical Society is
to serve as the steward of and advocate for the history of Exeter, New Hampshire.

What that means…

A non-profit organization, the Historical Society is the steward of Exeter’s rich past. We preserve the town’s history; educate students, the community, and visitors of all ages through programming and outreach; and serve as a repository for documents, maps, photos, artifacts and other ephemera pertaining to Exeter, New Hampshire.

What We do & What We've Done

The Exeter Historical Society...

  • Provides eight regular monthly programs of historical interest each year, October through May

  • Visits schools with Civil War and WWII workshops to educate students about the Exeter experience

  • Was awarded Business of the Year - Small Non-Profit/Educational Category, 2011, by the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce

  • Produces the monthly video series, the Exeter History Minute

  • Writes the bi-weekly column, "Historically Speaking" in the Exeter News-Letter

  • Conducts genealogical research for members and patrons

  • Presents programs of local history to community organizations

  • Creates exhibits of local artifacts
